Halloween

holdmyhand

I know Halloween was almost a week ago, but I have a little story to share that is funny / heartbreaking, depending on who you ask… My brother, Jordan, and I have a different opinions on this little incident ;)

(I’ve told this story to a few people already, so if you’ve heard it, bear with me…)

So, last year, we took the L.J. and his cousins trick or treating around a friend’s neighborhood in Vancouver. All went pretty well… good atmosphere, great candy… except we had a little episode at one house. When the boys knocked on the door of this particular house, a guy jumped out in this horrible, ugly mask and scared L.J. senseless. I mean, screaming, crying, snot, big huge tears… he didn’t stop shaking for hours (and, of course, Jordan’s boys weren’t phased in the least). I was furious that someone would do that to a little 2 year old -I mean the hideouscreatureman saw the kids coming up the front pathway, shut the door and then jumped back out to scare them. Totally unnecessary to do to toddlers.

After that, whenever we brought up Halloween, L.J. would mention it. And we always had discussions that it was just a person dressed up and playing, similar to when he dresses up like spiderman. (But I do hate that that’s the one thing that he remembers from that night).

This year we decided to take all the kids back to the same neighborhood. Fact of the matter is, we got some great loot there, so why ruin a good thing.

We went to the first couple of houses and as we rounded a corner, Jordan and I both spotted the house where uglymaskperson had scared L.J. last year… and in the doorway was a sweet little old lady with a little puppy dog handing out candy to a group of kids. Awesome! That horribledevilman must have moved out and an adorable grandma must have moved in! Great news.

Jordan walks the boys up the front pathway to the house.

They knock on the door.

“Trick or Treat!?”, they yell. And…

BOO!!!

UGLYHORRIBLEDEVILHIDEOUSCREATUREMASKEDMAN scares L.J. AGAIN!!!

AGAIN!!!

Can you believe it???

Worst mom ever.

As I carried my shrieking, snot faced child back down the pathway towards the street, we passed a dad and his little girl on their way up to this house. We gave him a head’s up that someone jumps out and scares the kids. He thanked us for the warning and held his daughter’s hand tightly as she knocked on the door…

And who do you think answered the door for her??

The sweet, adorable grandma with the precious little puppy.

I will also add this, after Jordan pulled himself together from laughing so hard, he carried my timid little L.J. to every other house on the block and assured him that he’d protect him from any other monsters.

But we're skipping that cursed house next year.
